What is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a cosmetic procedure in which an AHA (Alpha hydroxy acid) or a BHA (Beta hydroxy acid) solution is applied to the skin to remove layers of dead skin cells and stimulate new growth, even out tone and give a smooth and fresh appearance. A chemical peel can be used to treat rough and dry skin, acne, fine lines, sun damage, melanoma and hormonal pigmentation.

What does the treatment involve?

During a chemical peel, the area will be thoroughly cleansed and exfoliated to remove any impurities or makeup. Your therapist will perform a thorough assessment before selecting a peel based on your concerns. The peel is applied to the area using gauze and is then left on the skin for up to 10 minutes before being neutralized and removed. Your therapist will then apply a Medik8 Ultimate Recovery Mask to heal and soothe the skin whilst treating you to a relaxing head massage. The mask is then removed and customized serums and finishing creams are applied.

Add-on options:

LED Light Therapy- $20

LED Light Therapy is a gentle and natural way to rejuvenate the skin, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, improve hydration and stimulate collagen and elastin within the skin. Enjoy a relaxing head massage while the LED light warms and rejuvenates.

Extractions - $25

Using extraction tools, cotton tips and tissues our therapists will gently remove comedones, milia and skin blockages.

Who can have these treatments?

Chemical peels are not suitable for those who have been on Isotretinoin (Accutane) in the last 6 months, have open wounds, infections, rosacea, psoriasis or dermatitis in the area to be treated.

Chemical peels are not safe for those that are pregnant or breast feeding

Preparing for a Chemical Peel

  • Prep with the products recommended by our staff if necessary.

  • Wear sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher daily) every day

  • Stop the use of Retinols one week before your peel

  • Stop the use of facial exfoliants, exfoliating brushes or scrubs, peel pads, AHA products, and BHA products one week before your peel

  • Avoid sun exposure

  • Make sure you have reviewed the list of chemical peel contraindications of who should avoid/not get a chemical peel

Post care information

  • Immediately following a chemical peel treatment your skin will be slightly flushed.

  • We recommend that makeup is not applied on the skin for 12 hours afterwards. Depending on the type of peel you may experience very mild through to moderate skin shedding from day 2-7.

  • We advise that you do not prematurely pick at or exfoliate the dead skin as this may cause scarring or post-inflammatory pigmentation.

  • We strongly advise you stay completely out of the sun for at least 2 weeks.

  • Once the skin peeling is complete you will see a dramatic improvement in your skin’s complexion. Over the next four to six weeks the skin’s appearance will be enhanced further. The skin will look more vibrant, clearer, firmer, and healthier.
